Q1. We already have state based canteen guidelines. Will the national food categorisation system be mandatory?
A1. No - implementation of the food categorisation system developed as part of the National Healthy School Canteens Project will be at the discretion of each state or territory government.
Q2. I would like to contribute to the consultation process. How do I get involved?
A2. The project team welcomes comments and feedback from anyone interested in the provision of food to school children via school canteens. To get involved.
Q3. I work in a school canteen and have already undertaken training. Will I have to attend training again?
A3. Implementation of the food categorisation system developed as part of the National Healthy School Canteens Project will be at the discretion of each state or territory government. If your state or territory decides to implement the food categorisation system your prior learning and skills will be taken into account.
Q4. Will the national food categorisation system use the traffic light approach?
A4. The project team will be reviewing current school canteen initiatives in Australia and overseas. Current initiatives will be taken into account when developing the food categorisation system and extensive consultation will be undertaken before deciding on an approach.
